Frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about the tests and how our classes run.

What is the ACER Scholarship test?

It's a series of academic ability tests that independent schools use to award scholarships — typically ranging from 20% to 100% of school fees. In South Australia, many schools share one Cooperative test day each February (registration usually closes mid-January), so a single sitting can count for several schools at once. The test covers written expression, humanities and reading comprehension, and mathematics — including numerical and abstract reasoning. Preparation begins in Years 5–6 for entry into colleges in Year 7.

What is the Ignite program?

Ignite is the Department for Education's program for gifted and talented students, offered at Glenunga International High School, The Heights School and Aberfoyle Park High School. It lets students progress at a pace suited to their abilities. Entry is by an entrance exam administered by ACER, which assesses reading comprehension, mathematical and abstract reasoning, and written expression. Exams are typically held each February, and preparation begins in Years 5–6 for entry in Year 7.

When are the tests held, and when should we start preparing?

Both tests typically run each February: the ACER Cooperative day is held early in the month (with registration closing mid-January), and Ignite entrance exams are also usually in February. Preparation begins in Years 5–6 for entry in Year 7, and most families allow 6–12 months so skills are built steadily rather than crammed.

How small are the classes?

Every class is capped at 10 students so that each child gets individualised attention and feedback in every session.

What's covered in the programme?

We cover every section students face: numerical/quantitative reasoning, reading comprehension and verbal reasoning, abstract reasoning, and written expression. The programme blends structured teaching, timed drills, full-length mock exams, homework for consolidation and 1-on-1 mentoring — including individual essay feedback.

Where are classes held?

Classes run from our Adelaide CBD venue at 97 Pirie Street, Adelaide SA 5000.

Do you provide practice materials?

Yes. We use hundreds of original, in-house questions written by the tutors and matched to the real ACER and Ignite format, timing and difficulty — plus full-length mock papers. Students also receive homework between classes to consolidate each skill.

How do we enrol?

Send an enquiry through our contact form and we'll be in touch to talk through your child's needs, recommend the right course, and confirm a place. Spaces are limited to 10 per class.

What if my child can't make a session?

Let us know as early as you can and we'll do our best to help your child catch up — including class materials and homework so they don't fall behind. Please note that we charge by the term, so fees aren't adjusted for individual missed sessions.
